Barrington Public Schools has begun another busy and exciting month! The collaboration, energy, and innovation that I regularly witness in each of our schools are just some (of many!) reasons I am thankful for our vibrant BPS community. As we look forward to all that November will bring, I would like to share with you some of the past month’s noteworthy accomplishments.
October’s District highlights represent the intersections of excellent educational instruction, inclusion, and community care that are present each day in our schools.
Niche named Barrington Public Schools the best district in Rhode Island for another consecutive year, placing us within the top 3% of districts in the country. Learn more about the Niche rating here.
Barrington High School was named to the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) School Honor Roll for students’ college readiness and AP participation. Read more about this distinction.
We celebrated our hardworking and dedicated coaches and building administrators on National Coaches Day and throughout National Principals Month. We are so fortunate to have their expertise, mentorship, and leadership!
Barrington High School students participated in safe and fun Spirit Week and Homecoming festivities. Victory Field was loud and proud during the Homecoming game on October 4.
Our elementary students learned about fire safety during National Fire Prevention Week with help from members of the Barrington Fire Department. See pictures of BFD’s visit to Nayatt School.
The District-wide recognition of Unity Day sent a visible message that Barrington Public Schools and our learning communities are united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Check out these photos from Unity Day celebrations.
Barrington High School students volunteered during Barrington’s annual Day of Caring on October 14 and spent hours harvesting crops, pulling weeds, and spreading mulch to help Barrington Farm School get ready for the winter season. See the boys cross country team’s volunteer efforts in action.
Hampden Meadows School students participated in International Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day which promotes physical activity, teaches students safe and healthy ways to get to school, and helps to reduce traffic and pollution. See the photos here.
Nayatt School celebrated the retirement of second grade teacher, Ms. Taft, with a special visit from the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Thank you for your many years of service to our students, Ms. Taft!
School libraries are places of discovery, knowledge, and personal development. These photos from inside the Barrington Middle School library and these pictures of Constitution Day in the Barrington High School library show just how busy our school libraries are every day.
The fall athletics season at Barrington High School is coming to an impressive end for our student athletes. The JV girls volleyball team won the JV Division II State Championship, the cheer team placed second in Division II at the Game Day Cheerleading Championship, and the girls and boys cross country teams placed fourth and second, respectively, in their Class Championship meets.
Hampden Meadows School students celebrated National First Responders Day with a visit from Officer Joel and members of the Barrington Police and Fire Departments, the Barrington Department of Public Works, the Rhode Island State Police, and the Newport Harbormaster! They even got to meet K9 Levi who is now a local celebrity. See photos from the “Touch a Truck” event here.
Barrington High School students attended the Rhode Island Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference where they networked with peers and participated in professional learning workshops.
With the help of Dr. Anderson and Ms. St. Angelo, a group of Barrington Middle School students planted an Artemis I Moon Tree at BMS. The tree was grown from a seed that orbited the moon during the Artemis I mission in 2022. Check out pictures of the tree planting!
BPS Sustainability Report
Barrington Public Schools is participating in the Rhode Island Department of Education’s (RIDE) multi-stage eligibility process for school construction and state aid. BPS is moving forward in this process with a continued commitment to climate resiliency and sustainability. This Climate Resilient and Sustainable Schools Report clarifies the ways that our District embraces community stewardship, reduces our environmental footprint, and addresses community challenges. Updated 2024-2025 School Calendar
The Barrington School Committee approved a change to the 2024-2025 school calendar that has shifted the last day of school for students from June 20, 2025 to June 18, 2025. This change, previously approved by RIDE, accommodates observance of the Juneteenth holiday. Please note that the last day of school for teachers remains June 20. The new calendar can be found at this link and on all district websites.
