February was a very busy month for Barrington Public Schools! It always amazes me how quickly the school year progresses and how much our students can learn and achieve in just six months.
As we leave February behind, I would like to share with you some noteworthy accomplishments that reflect our district’s commitment to excellence, inclusion, and collaboration.
The Barrington High School boys indoor track team ended a very impressive winter season by winning the Metropolitan Division Championship and, for the first time in BHS athletics history, the RIIL Indoor State Championship! Congratulations to our student athletes and coaches!
Barrington Middle School eighth grade artists won first place in the Wyland Foundation’s National Art and Classroom Mural Challenge! See students and the winning mural, which highlights the important message of whale conservation and protection, here.
Student Council members at Hampden Meadows School organized a SOUPerbow canned soup drive for Tap-In. Together, the HMS community collected more than 1,000 soup cans to help address food insecurity in the East Bay.
Second graders at Nayatt School, Sowams School, and Primrose Hill School went on a Jurassic journey with Dinosaurs Rock after building their literacy and science skills. Check out the pictures from this prehistoric presentation!
Former members of the Barrington High School boys hockey team returned to the rink for Alumni Appreciation Night in celebration of the fiftieth year of hockey at BHS. Alumni support helps fund student scholarships and offset seasonal program costs. See photos of the event here.
Unified Theater performed their student-led and student-written production of Teenage Dream: TV featuring scenes from classic teenage television shows and movies. See highlights of the performance and watch a recording here.
Language Club is helping students develop cultural competence and expand their understanding of community. Hampden Meadows students recently heard from guest speakers and learned more about the Lunar New Year.
Students at Barrington High School are working to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health. Two quarterfinals basketball games were recently dedicated to Morgan’s Message, an organization that supports mental health awareness for student-athletes.
Deeper learning is a cornerstone of our curriculum. Sowams School third graders applied their knowledge by designing their own dream houses using the math concepts of area and perimeter. Look at the classroom construction site here.
Our winter sports athletes were on a roll this month! In addition to maintaining strong records this season, they competed in state and divisional championships, placed in regional competitions, and played in quarterfinals games. Way to go, student athletes!
